Puppies love to Chew

Puppies often will eat anything in sight when they are outside  Puppies use their mouths as children use their hands to touch things to feel the different textures of the various objects that they come across.  Puppies will generally eat sticks, pebbles, bugs, grass and a handful of other things.  The best response is to reprimand the puppy when it picks up something inappropriate and to teach the puppy to "drop it" or "leave it" on command

Pet Care & Training Tips

Puppies Chewing

Chewing is often a problem with puppies and one that has to be controlled if the pet is to remain part of your household.  A puppy must be trained to direct this normal chewing behavior to the right king of objects.  This requires patience and persistence.

Confine your puppy when you're not around in a comfortable space with appropriate chew toys that it will learn to regard as "his/hers" for gnawing on.  When your puppy chews on inappropriate items when you are around distract him/her with a more attractive option and give praise for good behavior.  If chewing persists on household items use a mixture of vinegar/water/and pepper to make them less tempting.

1 cup vinegar, 1 TBSP pepper, juice of a lemon, 1 cup water
